What you wrote about the paste got me puzzled now, so I checked my book: my recipe mentions the same things you mentioned: milk, egg, lemon peel and such... Weird. I wanted to make the buns tonight, but it's getting late here, so I stuck the buns in the fridge and will finish them tomorrow. Hope they don't mind an overnight rise in the cold...
